When Jill Hunter is approached by an old colleague from her time with the police, she is determined nothing can make her go back.
That is until she hears that a four-year-old boy has been abducted and the police have no leads.
Jill finds herself working as a consultant alongside the police - some of her old colleagues and some new faces.
Although the boy's parents are rich, Jill soon suspects this is about much more than money, especially when she suspects the boy's father is lying to her.
Will Jill be able to crack the case before it's too late and save the boy?
The Inside Job A Jill Hunter Short #3
When Jill Hunter receives a call to work a job for Josie Slater, a defense attorney, she knows it will be interesting. When she learns that the woman's husband, who she will be investigating is an FBI agent, she fears it will be too interesting.
Josie tells her that she believes her husband is plotting to have her killed, and that the private investigator she previously hired was so scared by what he learned, he refused to continue. Jill must find him and learn what scared him so much.
Can Jill crack the case or will she become a victim?

The Jill Hunter books have the impetus of an out of control train, zipping at break-neck speed down the track.The problem is, there are no rest stops along the way; no chance to take a breath or enjoy the scenery.
As any writer of suspense fiction knows, there have to be ups and downs; high tension combined with rest stops. If there’s not enough tension, the story is flat. When there’s too much—as in Jill Hunter Books 1-3—there’s no respite.
All three books are in serious need of an editor.
Grammar and punctuation seem to be optional, and verb tenses change throughout, from past to present to past perfect. Simple past tense would have worked 99.99% of the time, but Rose chose to use past perfect, which meant “had” appeared virtually every other word. In one two sentence paragraph “had” appears six times. One minor example of poor grammar is “what I had saw” instead of “what I had seen”.
When one character explains something at great length, there are no descriptions of his or her facial expression, hand gestures or body language, which can help the reader understand the person’s frame of mind. It also gives us a break from heavy dialogue.
The stories themselves were interesting, but could have been fleshed out more. I have no idea what the majority of the characters (including Jill) look like. Jill goes running here and there, giving terse orders to everyone, but we have no inkling of what any one place, or any one person, looks like. Because there’s no description, we don’t get to know Jill. She’s evidently supposed to be a hard-boiled female detective along the lines of Sam Spade, but she spends so much time running around that we don’t get fully acquainted. By the end of book three, I still didn’t know Jill Daniels, nor did I want to. She doesn’t come across as a likeable character.
The stories obviously take place in the U.S., although most characters sound British.
The ending of each book is rushed, as if Rose wants to be finished and move on to the next project.
There’s hope. If Ari Rose finds a mentor who can help with the rough bits and flesh out the speed-freak bare bones, I’m sure there will be a lot of five-star reviews. This time around, though, I can only give three, and that’s being generous for great ideas.

I love all these fast paces stories about PI Jill Hunter. She is a no nonsense girl who gets down to business and takes care of it however she sees fit. Great stories.
So far I have enjoyed the first three stories about Jill Hunter, as it states, they are short stories and are very enjoyable to me. Jill always gets her man!!
What a great series.. Loved the novels Jill Hunter 1 through 3.. 'The Letter' - 'The Abduction' - 'The Inside Job'.. Now have to continue reading the series as they keep you intrigued and glued to the story.. Excellent.. Highly Recommended.
A new writer to my kindle library. Ari writes in a way that captures your attention from the first paragraph. I started to read the first book and I couldn't put the book down until I had finished the first 3 books. Now I am purchasing books 4 - 12. It is a toss up of who is my writer writer when it comes to thriller books - Fern Michaels or Ari Rose. It is a very close tie. I am voluntarily viewing this book.
Story 1 is about a murderer who plays with Jill, by sending her notes, and taunting her. Until she understands that there is much more than she could ever imagine. Story 2 is about a kidnapping of a little boy. Jill wants to say no to the case, but because of the child. She knows she's going to take it. Story 3 is about a wife who thinks her husband is cheating on her. But what Jill finds out is so much more than that. All are good quick paced stories. With no cliffhangers. Would recommend it to anyone who loves a good detective story
The Letter was my first Jill Hunter read. Too short by far for such a good read.
My second Jill Hunter read by author Ari Rose, was even better than the first, again too short by far.
My third short read, The Inside Job, from Ari Rose, was again even better than the second short read. As good as this author is, and as good as the character is, it’s time to get a full-length novel! I'm glad I read these back-to-back-to-back, because the 3 reads took less than a morning to get through.
The Jill Hunter Books 1-3 series has a diverse mix of stories. Two of the stories could well be episodes of the Criminal Minds TV show. The other is more of a suspense-thriller story showing some complexity and creativity often lacking in a short story.
If you read “A New Beginning,” the prequel to the Jill Hunter series, you will see Jill (an ex-cop) develop as an investigator and person. She is savvy, smart and sneaky in her pursuit of justice—not normally accomplished by the book. This three-book series is a good start and begs for more with books 4-6 (which I have read and enjoyed).
If you like strong female characters in police stories you will enjoy Jill as well as her ex-partner (cop), Jan. They not only work together seamlessly, they are great friends.
