Wolfsbane Andrea Cremer Books

Wolfsbane is the follow-up book to Nightshade by Andrea Cremer. I couldn't wait to get my hand on this book, because if you read Nightshade, you know that we were left on a bit of a cliff. This book picks up on that cliff.

Calla awakens to find out that life as she knew it is over, and that everything she had ever thought was right was really wrong, that she has been lied to her entire life. The rules have changed and she has been on the wrong side the whole time. This is a big shock, and it takes awhile to sink in, but the first task is to rescue her pack and Ren.

Of course Shay is not all that happy about the Ren part, but he is for recusing all the others, and then Shay finds out all the things that he is going to have to do and what he has to be and it is a whirlwind.

When Calla returns to Vail with the Searchers to rescue the pack, you find some of the horrible things that happened the night her and Shay escaped. You also find out who is still loyal to Calla and the Nightshade and who has flipped over to the Banes.

This book is full of discovery, and fighting, and finding out who really is in your corner when it all comes down to it. I don't know what it is about the way it is written, but something pulls at me, and I just want to jump into the story and be friends with Ren and Calla and Shay.

This is so well written and the story flows so well that you will sit down to start reading and the next thing you know the book will be done. It is a great read. Again, since the main characters are 17-18 years old, it's marked young adult, but I think it is good for anyone. I even passed the series on to my 14 year old son, only because of the shape-shifters though but he is enjoying it

Wolfsbane Andrea Cremer Books Reviews

(Review originally posted at GoneWithTheWords.com)

Andrea Cremer, I bow down at your amazing story-telling. If you thought Nightshade was full of unique, incredibly interesting characters and original story, Wolfsbane will leave you wondering how it was possible for it to have gotten even better.

Wolfsbane truly felt like a "Part II". Yes it picks up where Nightshade left off, but it's also almost like a completely new story. I loved that!! We're introduced to new characters (who I instantly took a liking to and I know you will, too) and we're told new, accurate histories about the Guardians, Searchers and Keepers. It turns out some people have been lying for a very long time, and lying very well. Wolfsbane also had a lot more action than Nightshade. More battles, more casualties. It was really sad every time someone died!

In Nightshade, my stance in the battle of the boys was firm Team Ren, all the way. I think something about Shay always having to be saved by Calla kind of turned me off. Well, lets just say that Wolfsbane Shay has grown into his inner wolf. He is more assertive and manly, deadly even, more sure of himself...and, well, it's kind of hard not to take notice. I found myself very conflicted, as was Calla. Calla's conflict in choosing between them stems more from her feelings of guilt for leaving Ren, whom she truly cares about, and her feelings of love towards Shay. I'm still Team Ren though. I'm just so much more sympathetic to Ren's character and story than Shay's. Le sigh, I always fall for the tortured boys. One thing I'm almost positive of though, is that Calla will choose Shay in the end. She kind of did already, from the start. I've made my peace with it in reading Wolfsbane. They really love each other! It's so hard to admit that I feel it will turn out that way, but I think it's inevitable. And can I just mention how much I LOVED that scene toward the end, with Shay and Calla in the garden!? The emotions and feelings between them were so palpable! Loved it. )

In conclusion, I hated it. HAHA, KIDDING! It was a brilliant follow up to the already amazing Nightshade! I was so engrossed by it. Sure I missed Ren, but he is very present in this book, much to Shay's dismay. And I'm guessing from the ending that he will be ALL OVER Bloodrose, and I for one cannot wait!
I am honestly really disappointed with this book. The first book in the Nightshade trilogy was pretty good and very similar to Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause which is great. This book picks up pretty much right where Nightshade left off and honestly this book didn't need to happen. Way too much of this book is wasted on bad dialogue and trying to make the audience like the Searcher characters that just I just never liked as easily as the characters from the first book. The wolves were barely in this book and as I said it was just too much sitting around one place with bad dialogue sessions. Too many new characters were introduced at once and the story tried too hard to make you care about them but I honestly never did.

To me this book was filler and only 30% of this book was needed it could have easily been added to Bloodrose the third novel. Calla who was the strong but yes confused heroine in Nightshade was just to flat and weak in this book a little too Bella Swan for my taste and I just didn't care about her anymore. Still I finished it and moved on to the next one hoping it wouldn't be more filler to a story that had good potential. After reading this one I'll finish the triology but I doubt I'll read Cremer's next series.
