Wow what to say about this book. There is so much to say yet there is so little I want to say because I don't want to give anything away. This is one of those crazy books that it is almost better to go in blind, because no matter what you read whether it is blurbs or reviews will not prepare for what this book really is.So I was all set up with a bunch of books to read this week. I was gonna read x book on Tuesday and such and such book on Wednesday etc etc... Then I read this little Letter from the Author in an email I got:
"LETTER FROM THE AUTHOR:
Dear Reader,
I once considered not writing this story. It was too dark, too twisted, too much, too, too, too.
Obviously, I changed my mind. But I re-wrote it in four different ways first, trying to make it different, more easily palatable, softer.
It didn’t work.
So I went back to my original idea, the idea that I loved. The idea that I dreamed about and lived and breathed until it was done the way I wanted it, the way it has to be.
I know you’re capable of reading it. I know you’re capable of putting yourselves back together again when it’s all over. I have faith in you.
Is this story dark?
Yes.
It is twisted?
At times.
Will it slap you in the face?
Absolutely.
Will it have you flipping the pages, trying to figure it out, trying to get to the climax, trying to breathe?
God, I hope so.
I wrote this story the way it needed to be written. I couldn’t sugarcoat it. I couldn’t water it down. It is this way because the story demands it.
I’m not sorry."
Suddenly the brakes went screeching to a halt and I realized there was going to be a major shift in my reading this week and so Nocte replaced my Tuesday and Wednesday night read. It was nothing of what I imagined and everything you could hope for in a book. I don't care what you read about this book there is no way you are going to know what is happening ahead of time...you will be surprised, maybe stunned, most likely end up in tears, but it will be good.
So that is it...I am giving you nothing more because going in blind is better. I will say though for those of you who want to know if it is a standalone or not...it is not! There is a cliffhanger.

NOCTE The Nocte Trilogy Book 1 eBook Courtney Cole Reviews
When I started this story, I wasn't really expecting that I will love it instantly and let alone stayed so late (not minding that it’s a workday the next day) so I could finish it. Aside from the writing style, another thing that made me glued to this story as early as the first chapter was the mention of twins. And you know me, I love twins! It’s not everyday that I’ve got to read a book where the main characters were twins plus the book cover really intrigued me.
I had this book in my TBR for a long time now so I can't really remember what this story is all about. And looking at the cover, I thought its going to be a paranormal romance. To tell you honestly, I’ve been expecting a vampire or any supernatural creatures to appear during the first half of the story, hihi. But when I started to understand what this story is all about, I can’t help but give myself a little knock in the head, lol.
I can't talk more about this story other than telling you how emotional and personal this story is to me. I have an uncle who has some sort of a bipolar illness and there comes a time in a year (or sometimes once every 2 years) where he gets really unstable (I really hate it when they refer to it as craziness even if scientifically it is). I remember the time when he was first diagnosed, it was really chaotic at home and then my grandpa got those nasty shiner in his left eye (I think you already got an idea where he got it from). It was a really super hard time for the family and I was still so young back then, I think I was in 5th or 6th grade? Thinking about it now, I'm not so sure how I was able to handle those trying times without having a breakdown. Btw, in case you guys are wondering, my uncle is doing fine now and as long as he's taking his medication, he's really harmless and is normal.
So yep, this story is really dark and it talks about the struggle of having someone you really love and this case her twin brother dealing with insanity. And I can totally relate to Calla. About her struggle to save her brother and her reluctance to get separated from him because he might do something to himself. There’s a lot to tell about her character and what she is dealing with but I’m afraid I might drop some major spoiler so I'll just stop it there. Also, the whole story we're taken both from Finn and Calla's POV and just by reading Finn's name, I already had a hard time controlling my tears.
I was already teary-eyed reading about Finn and his struggles so when I came to the part where the mysteries were starting to make sense, I wasn’t able to hold it in anymore and I just bawled my heart out. I think I cried reading the last 3 chapters. I don’t think I ever cried this hard because of a book before.
This book really surprised me and I really like that. I have to say that Nocte isn’t just your typical emotional read but it’s more than that because of the mystery that that will really keep you going. I’ve read some complaints about the cliff hanger ending but for me, it wasn’t really one of those super annoying cliff hanger types. It didn’t annoy me at all, actually, it made me feel really excited to read the next book.
This was my first time reading from the author and I am really impressed. It's still the first book of the trilogy so for now, I am giving this one a 4 star rating, hopefully I will like the second book so much I'll finally give it a 5-star rating, *wink.
